They are of course better than what you will see on the network news stations this evening.
White's Ferry Stranding on Friday December 12th
We had an exciting morning commute to our photo-shoot this morning. We got stranded for several hours on Whites Ferry across the Potomac River from Leesburg to Poolsville.
With the first heavy rains last night we had a large amount of debris in the river including large trees. One of these became caught under the ferry and than other trees started snagging the ferry cable, which was lifted off the bottom of the river by the ferry's midstream position.
River rescue teams from Maryland and the fire department from Virginia soon joined us.
Next a news helicopter and than the media from the various networks joined the scene while we evacuated the ferry via the zodiacs with the help of the rescue squads.
Following several hours of delays the ferry crew was able to remove the large tree wedged under the ferry with a tractor and bring our cars to shore.
No one hurt or stressed, just very late for arrival at our various destinations.

We covered the Barack Obama “Change We Need” campaign rally in Leesburg today.
The event included Virginia governor Tim Kaine, and former governor Mark Warner.
It’s estimated that 10,000 people attended the rally.

Virginia is one of the key states that the democrats believe may switch from voting for a republican president for the first time since the 1960’s.

Awards at The Edge Photography Studio
Awards at The Edge Photography Studio
The Edge Photographers Don Harper and David Kay reported recent awards in several photo competitions both local and international.
The Waterford Foundation Art & Photography Exhibition based in Waterford Virginia was held this weekend October 3rd, 4th and 5th. Edge Photographer David Kay submitted two entries including “Honor” which took first place in the Photojournalistic category and his artistic rendition of “Southern Swamp” third place in the “Nature” category. “Honor” is representative of the body of work these two photographers have been creating at Arlington National Cemetery during memorial services they’ve been photographing for many families. More of their work from ANC may be viewed at the website The Arlington Photographer. There are also open Internet galleries at The Edge Galleries related to the Old Guard (3rd U.S. Infantry) and different military service honor guards and bands including the Army, Air Force, Navy and Marines.
Don Harper is an international member of the British Professional Photographers Association and the Society for Wedding and Portrait Photographers. Five entries in the latest competition won one Gold, one Silver and three Bronze awards. The gold award winning image “It’s Time” was selected for promoting the 2008 Virginia Polo season at Great Meadow in Warrenton. The silver award is a contemporary bridal portrait.

The Washington DC National Building Museum Corp Events
We had the chance to photograph a corporate event at the National Building Museum in Washington D.C. on Saturday. It's one of my favorite venues for large corporate events. It's simply a remarkable building for allowing creative decor and lighting. You should checkout the history on this building that from the outside is very unassuming, but inside a real capital gem.It was originally built to provide housing for processing retirement benefits for union soldiers from the civil war. Yes, I know that's a bit redundant. Give us a call if you want our creativity at your corporate or holiday event this winter. Century Market Fair At Ft. Frederick Maryland
"Colonel Washington's Frontier Forts Association" Century Market Fair at Fort Frederick Maryland.
Ines & I had the chance on Saturday (April 26th)to visit Ft. Frederick in Big Pool Maryland after our morning portrait sessions.We were invited by our good friends Art & Linda Winder with Shenandoah Carriage Company.
Art was camping there since Wednesday in authentic costume andgear for the colonial 1700's period. (Except for food, I saw there larder and itwas quite plush). Art was participating in an event called the Century MarketFair sponsored by the above association. There appeared to be 50 plussutlers with their tents and goods and you really felt like you had entered atime machine back to the colonial period and a trading camp on the frontier.
Each of the participants prided themselves on using materials that existed at that time period. We will definitely plan on attending again next year if our wedding schedule permits as this is a great opportunity for a fun yet educational day. It brings that period to life and has relevance for families and a wonderful photo opportunity for any photographer. A Fine Art book containing selected wedding images designed by award winning graphic designer Ines Harper. Your art book will be designed for entry in international photography competitions.
A cd slide show of the best 300 plus images from your wedding day with music and permission to make copies for family and friends.
The digital negatives of all the images from your entire wedding deemed good by our photographers. This includes a digital catalog for easy viewing. Rights to make your own prints and distribute to family and friends, but not for sale or commercial media printing.
A wine and cheese party at our studio for family and friends to view your slide show, album proofs, etc. Usually 4 weeks after your wedding.
All of your wedding images in a password protected on-line gallery for 90 days after your wine and cheese party. Friends, family, and guests can order touched-up prints on-line.
Judging of entries will be by The Edge Photography Staff and their decision is final.
Bride will sign our standard wedding agreement with contest stipulations.
This package doesn't include parent albums or duplicate books, but they may be ordered at our standard prices. Print prices are our standard pricing for this package regarding prints ordered on-line.
Destination weddings (more than 100 miles from our Leesburg studio) may incur travel expenses.

Time for a break!
WPPI Las Vegas 2008
We are taking a break for a week while we attend the “Wedding & Portrait Photographers International” Conference in Las Vegas.
We may be a bit hard to reach during the conference, but will be back up to speed Wednesday of next week. March 19th and hosting our open house on that Wednesday night.
This is our chance to recharge the creative juices, meet with friends from around the world and see if we can win some portrait awards again.

Bambi Cantrell Webinar
This evening we had the pleasure of attending Bambi Cantrell's first webinar. Sort of an experiment for her to reach out to those photographers she mentors.
Bambi is one of the original Microsoft Icon photographers and several years prior to this received accolades from the U.N. for her photography.
She is a great lady who stays on top of her game by anticipating trends in wedding and portrait photography.
Bambi has given us some ideas to refine and test this year. Our brides will benefit from more phenomenal bridal and groom portraits. Come and talk to us about your wedding with The Edge Photography.
